About Me

Former Investigator turned non-profit professional (quarter-life crisis perhaps). I’m from the Midwest- I started in Los Angeles, grew up in St Louis, moved to Kansas City, temporarily to Cincinnati, took a promotion in Miami, quit my corporate job and I now live in NYC!! I’m a humanitarian at heart, above all an advocate for universal health, human rights, and education. Not exactly a feminist, but kind of. I just believe in equality, like not just for women, but for everyone. I’m a world traveler, avid reader, dedicated runner, yogi, and I don’t own a television (seriously). Sounds like an online dating profile so far, but really, why should you listen to me? Why read my blog? Throughout my world travels and cultural learning experiences I’ve learned quite a bit about other cultures and developed a perspective unique to my personal experiences. I’ve found my voice, and I have something, many things actually, to say. I hope you will gain something from my perspective and personal experiences, and join my journey to embrace other cultures, to learn as much as possible about the world and other people!

About Me Part 2

Just one year after I wrote this intro and started my blog, my life has changed drastically. In the past year I traveled a lot, worked with the District Medical Office in Moshi, Tanzania, visited Rwanda and Kenya, turned 30, came back home and lost my job 3 weeks after, then did yoga teacher training. I did quite a bit of crying and soul-searching after losing my job, and eventually made the decision (after a lot of things didn’t work out) to leave New York and live abroad for a year. Cha-cha-cha-changes!!

So, I am spending 2 weeks in Costa Rica, living in South Africa for 3 months, camping in Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe, and Zambia for about a month, then heading to Madagascar for a month to work with forest conservation, living and working in a refugee camp for a month in Greece before I travel Europe a bit (Italy, Germany, Hungary, Austria -who knows!). My plans could change, and truly, I have no idea where I will end up at the end of this year, but it will be determined by what Masters in Public Health program I get accepted into this fall. More reasons to follow my blog as I explore the world and write about my experiences!

About Me Part 3

I did the grad school thing, got a Masters in Public Health, travelled again, and now I am in a PhD program living in Denver, CO. I deeply love the mountains, nature, skiing, and all things Colorado. I am very grateful to have ended up here. I’m in my 3rd year of a PhD, procrastinating writing my thesis, and writing poetry instead. Enjoy!
